KEY STAT | China’s mobile gaming market observes strong revenue growth despite COVID-19

China’s mobile gaming industry recorded strong revenue growth in the first COVID-19 summer quarter. The RMB 50.8 billion (USD 7.56 billion) total grossing is 25% higher than in Q3 last year, and 3.14% higher than in Q2 2020, said the July-September 2020 industry report published by Gamma Data on Friday.

According to the report, Tencent (HKG: 0700)’s blockbuster game Honor of Kings is the top-grossing title.

The July-September period has traditionally been the peak time of the year for games, as hundreds of millions of student players are free to play during the school summer break. The pandemic also boosted gameplay time among mobile users.

Earlier this week, Genshin Impact, a game developed by Chinese studio miHoYo, grossed over USD 100 million globally upon releasing, KrASIA reported.
