What we’re most looking forward to on Day 3 of Collision from Home

This article is part of KrASIA’s partnership with Collision from Home. Written by Ciaran Bruder.

We are at the final day of Collision from Home and there is still plenty of action to look forward to, including the finals of our PITCH startups competition – and the crowning of the winner! We’re also gearing up for talks from cultural icons LL COOL J, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Margaret Atwood, and an address from Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

Channel 1 – Justin Trudeau on leading Canada today

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada; Gillian Tett, US editor-at-large at Financial Times.

Now into his fifth year as Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau faces the biggest challenge of his political career: leading Canada towards economic recovery in the wake of Covid-19. This is a truly once-off opportunity to learn from a world leader about how the world can take its first steps towards global recuperation by focusing on how to make positive changes at home.

Channel 2 – Nikolaj Coster-Waldau discusses protecting endangered species

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, actor and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) ambassador; Achim Steiner, UNDP administrator; Ana Kasparian, host and executive producer of The Young Turks.

Do you know who the most utilized but most poorly compensated actors are in the advertising industry? Animals. According to former Kingslayer and current UNDP ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, “about 20 percent of all ads feature animals, but they’re not compensated like a model or actor because they don’t have bank accounts”. Tune in to hear more about how the Lion’s Share initiative could change all that.

Channel 1 – Susan Herman on civil liberties during protests and pandemic

Susan Herman, ACLU president; Sabrina Siddiqui, national politics reporter at the Wall Street Journal.

Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the explosion of Black Lives Matter protests in recent weeks, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) couldn’t be any busier. Tasked with fighting discrimination and protecting society’s most vulnerable, the organization will be even more pivotal as the US races towards a presidential election. Don’t miss this fireside with ACLU president Susan Herman as she discusses how they are keeping spirits high in a dispiriting time.

Channel 2 – LL COOL J rocks the bells

LL COOL J, founder and CEO at Rock The Bells; Geoff Yang, chairman at Rock The Bells; Jemele Hill staff writer at the Atlantic.

Rapper. Record producer. Actor. Author – LL COOL J has done it all. Except, until now, Rock The Bells. In this talk, the hip-hop icon – together with Redpoint Ventures’ founding partner, Geoff Yang – explores the intersection of content, commerce and real-life experience that defines their new platform, Rock The Bells, and engages a new generation of content enthusiasts.

Channel 2 – In conversation with Margaret Atwood

Margaret Atwood, author; David Remnick, editor at the New Yorker.

Here, we sit down with one of the world’s most renowned authors: Margaret Atwood. The Canadian writer has provoked, thrilled and captivated her readers in equal measure over a near-50 year literary career, and her enduring popularity has seen her novels and short stories adapted to film and television, bringing Atwood’s social insight to whole new audiences. This is one you won’t want to miss!

Channel 2 – What does feature film look like in a post-Covid world?

Kristine Belson, president at Sony Pictures Animation; Monica Drake, assistant managing editor at the New York Times.

Many of us have watched more films than ever during the Covid-induced lockdown, but few can deny the pandemic has impacted how we consume movies – and how they’ll be made in the future. In this talk, Kristine Belson, president of Sony Picture Animations, talks about how the studio’s team is adapting to a new, more digitised distributed workflow while preparing for its next feature film, Connected.

Channel 1 – Terrell Owens and content experts discuss #BLM

Terrell Owens, former NFL player and entrepreneur; Joe La Puma, SVP of content strategy at Complex Networks; Jade Scipioni, senior reporter at NBC Universal.

Life in the public eye comes with its own unique issues, no matter the industry or location. But one of the positives that comes from celebrity is the ability to influence real social change. In light of the global Black Lives Matter protests, NFL superstar Terrell Owens sits down with a panel of content experts to discuss the power a single voice can have in transforming the world.

Channel 3 – The Gronkowski brothers’ guide to building a business empire

Rob Gronkowski, founder at The Gronk; Gordie Gronkowski, co-owner at Gronk Fitness; Dan Gronkowski, president at InSite Media; Glenn Gronkowski, business development director at Complex Sports & Entertainment; Ger Gilroy, managing director at Off the Ball.

Famous families are common – but the Gronkowskis are a completely different ball game. While the brothers are renowned for their success in the sporting arena, each is now having an impact in various industries off the field. We spotlight the Gronkowski siblings’ entrepreneurial endeavors, with Ger Gilroy of Off the Ball getting to the heart of what can make and break a business empire.

Channel 1 – Parag Agrawal: Empowering public conversation

Parag Agrawal, CTO at Twitter; Nicholas Thompson, editor-in-chief at Wired.

During the last few months, people have turned to social media platforms, including Twitter, more than ever in order to keep up to date with what’s happening globally. In this talk, we join Twitter’s CTO, Parag Agrawal, to discuss how Twitter’s core principles and investment in machine learning have enabled the platform to empower healthy public conversation.

With judges Eric Hippeau, managing partner at Lerer Hippeau Ventures; John Taht, VP of personal banking and cards at TD Bank; Prashanth Chandrasekar, CEO at Stack Overflow; Stefan Heuser, VP and head of venture investments at Hyundai Cradle.
