Chinese consumers losing interest in iPhone, research shows

The lustre of Apple’s iPhone is waning for China’s potential phone buyers even after the tech giant slashed prices, CNBC reported Tuesday, citing Longbow Research.

The number of searches for iPhones on Baidu plummeted by 48% in February, following a 50% plunge in January, Longbow said, adding that this was the fifth consecutive month of decline.

iPhone search trends on Baidu are indicative of the Apple smartphone’s demand in China. In the past four years, there has been a 74% correlation between search term frequency and changes in year-on-year sales figures for iPhones in the country, according to Longbow.
